Illustrators...

Recently in class we were asked to look into a number of different fashion illustrators and then experiment with a different range of media and techniques to create illustrations suitable for the brand I was designing for which was Stella McCartney. Here are 3 I chose...

Manolo Blahnik

Here I have combined the idea of surrealism and Salvidor Dali as I find him to be my favourite artist and I find Manolo's work to be very surreal and innovative. Here I have taken my tailored jacket design and over exaggerated the lapels to make it very unbelievable. I wanted to give it a melting look and a clock face based on Salvidor Dali's designs. I created this design using ink to give it a more watered down effect.

Here I experimented with collage cutting pieces away from magazines and catalogues to allow me to get some ideas of how I can make my designs more surreal.

 Carlos Aponte

Here I experimented with masking tape on my design to create a layered look using my jacket, skirt combination. I gave it added effect by ripping the masking tape slightly to show movement in my garment. As this one was my first attempt I didnt particularly like this design.

Here I redid my design using my tailored jacket with lapels as this was my favourite design on my design board. I prefered this design as i feel i added in more detail.

 Paul Iribe and Georges Lepape

Here i experimented creating a number of different stencils and layering them up to create a layered effect picture in the style of Paul Iribe and Georges Lepape, the reason I decided to pair these two illustrators together was due to the methods that they used to create their illustrations. They both used Porchoi which is what I tried to recreate in my illustrations to build up different colours and effects.

This is my finished image after I had spray painted using the different stencils. I layered them up to create this effect, I really like the outcome and think that it is a very effective technique to use.

Here I was then able to apply it to my design by adding in the pattern of the material through the use of Porchoi stencils.
