Modelling on the stand

Recently in class we were ask to model on the stand to show how by applying different design principles to a garment such as draping, pleating, adding darts and gathering the fabric to change the shape of the body and to play around with the fabric to gain different ideas to then transfer onto a pattern in order to create a garment.

Here we pinned the fabric into the middle of the bodice this was to create symmetry, making the waist appear thinner giving an hourglass figure.

We then pinned the top of the fabric again using symmetry. We then pinned the fabric back creating a gathered look at the top, this allowed the bodice to appear a different shape than it was, it also allowed us to add in and experiment with creating detail on a garment.

This was our final outcome of using symmetry, the outcome is quite strong and detailed.

Here we used draping and cowling at the neck. We were then able to pull in and pin the fabric at the waist to create a waist band. As we create quite an oversized neck feature this then allowed the waist to appear thinner and completely changed the body shape to the previous modelling on the stand.

This was the cowl neck feature that we created through the use of draping which when draped formed natural flowing pleats through out the neck.

This is where we added in darts to make the garment more fitted.

We pinned down each dart to fit the garment to the shape of the body.
