Constructing a skirt
Today in my pattern cutting lesson I was learning how to manufacture a skirt using my material. This wasnt our final piece it was a way of being able to experiment with different fabrics. The first thing that I had to do was draw out all of my patterns, I had to add a kick pleat into my skirt. Once I had drawn out all of my paper patterns I then had to transfer and trace them onto my fabric then cut them out so I was left with my fabric patterns. I then had to begin the construction of my skirt, I had to add interfacing onto the wrong side of my facings fabrics, I did this by simply ironing it on. I had to pin the kick pleat into my skirt, after I had pinned the kick pleat into place I had to do a top stictch across the top of the pleat. I had to add on the Yoke to my skirt pattern by sewing it onto it. I think that the most difficult part in the making of my garment was trying to add the zip in, I still havent quite completed my skirt because I struggled trying to line the zip up correctly. The first time that it was added in I didnt line it up properly with the edge of my overlocking, So it went way out. Then i unpicked it and tried to do it again and as it was an invisible zip i was adding into my garment I found that the zip ended up still being visible so ive had to re change it again, Untill i manage to correct it. I did enjoy my pattern cutting lesson I enjoy learning about how to constuct garments however I did find the zip really frustrating as it kept going wrong. I will be posting more on my progress with my skirt once i have managed too complete my garment.
